Your Dell Dimension 8100 supports both ECC and non-ECC memory. You can mix them, however when mixing ECC and non-ECC modules, the system will not perform the ECC function.
(Simply put, when in doubt just buy the kit without the letters ECC on it, or follow the link below.)

Your Dell Dimension 8100 only supports modules made with a specific type of chip. Should you find what seems to be the exact same memory elsewhere for a lower price, it is very possible that the cheaper memory will not work in your system.
